The Indian Wars Series
The Indian Wars series represents major conflicts in the 200-plus years of United States and Native American discord and are depicted from the Native American viewpoint. The reason I have chosen to depict the scenes the Native American view is simple: It was their ground.

Native American
Most of us history buffs began our love of Western lore after reading the stories of Native Americans surviving as their ancestral lands were consumed as the U.S. pushed west. These noble, often tragic, subjects are sources of some of my greatest inspiration. I research all the period clothes, accoutrements, and weaponry before I sculpt…but then sometimes take a little license to tell the stories properly. (I am an artist, after all!)
Each one of these pieces has the common theme of refusal to live by another man’s leave. Those of you that feel the same way know who you are!

Western
There are so many stories to tell about the American West of the 1800′s. Which ones appeal to you the most? [University of Texas clients, I know, I know... the longhorn is your favorite!]

Recounting The Coup
Recounting the Coup is one of my most popular pieces. It depicts a Lakota warrior recalling a life that he fought hard to preserve-but that is dwindling despite his best efforts. This sculpture comes in three different sizes: full figure, bust, and small bust.

This sculpture depicts a prospector learning the meaning of “Be careful what you wish for.”

Homage to Pin-Up Art
My inspiration mostly stems from the work of Gil Elvgren (1914-1980) and Alberto Vargas (1896-1982). Their pin-up imagery graced men’s magazines, inspired aircraft nose-art, and gave me ample subject matter to explore.

Lady Wranglers
Once again, I’ve found inspiration in tough, effective women who know how to get the job done. I am pleased to introduce Sun’s Up, Boys, the inaugural sculpture of my newest series, Lady Wranglers.

Saloon Girls
You may be surprised, but in many ways these ladies are semi-autobiographical for me. They are tough–they have to be–but still haven’t lost their humanity, even during challenging times. I end up pouring much of myself into each one of the Girls, and get such a charge when I see my collectors react to them strongly. I guess there is a little rebel in all of us, isn’t there?
If you would like to read more about the Girls, please check out Cactus Creek Daily. The blog’s author, Fancy Smith, has a dandy write-up on them.

Classical & Romantic
As a student of the human form, I often work in a more classical, representational style to study anatomy and movement. These are some of my favorite works and I use the knowledge I gain from each classical sculpture to enhance my Western and Native American imagery. I always sculpt the body of my subject first, and then add clothes to the completed entity to get the true-to-life look my collectors seek.
